A new museum devoted to one of Europe’s oldest surviving defensive towers — the legendary White Tower of Kamenets, standing on the banks of the Lesnaya River since the 13th century.
About the museum
A story carved in stone
The Belaya Vezha museum is dedicated to the Kamenets Tower — the White Tower — a unique monument of defensive architecture and one of the oldest surviving stone towers in Eastern Europe.
Built between 1276 and 1288 by order of Prince Vladimir Vasilkovich, the five-tier round tower rises almost 30 metres above the town of Kamenets. Its walls, 2.5 metres thick, have withstood crusader raids and sieges for more than seven centuries.
The museum opens on 1 August 2027 to tell the story of the tower, the town that grew around it, and the people who lived, fought and worked in its shadow.
